Join Our Team: Junior Comms Officer
Founded in 2017, British in Europe is the largest coalition of British citizens living and working in Europe. We actively campaign for the rights of UK citizens in the EU, EEA and EFTA countries. We proudly stand up for an inclusive, open, British and European identity.
BIE was awarded EU project funding in March 2024 for 20 months. As a result, we are expanding our team and looking to recruit a junior communications officer to work half-time on a project on the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights and the citizens’ rights part of the Withdrawal Agreement.
Your responsibilities will include:
● Implement the project communication strategy and campaign plan;
● Coordinate and contribute to the design and production of communications materials, including website pages, e-newsletters, documents and presentation templates;
● Prepare & edit news items on project objectives and achievements;
● Run project social media accounts (primarily Facebook, Bluesky and LinkedIn) and analyse results;
● Monitor and report on project communications activities and KPIs for submission to the granting authority;
● Liaise with BiE country group project volunteers and other stakeholders on project communications and with WP leaders;
● Support the communications around our face to face event in March 2025 (pre, during and post);
● Help maintain the volunteer and donor database.
We are looking for someone who:
● Identifies with and supports the values of British in Europe and the EU project;
● Holds a Bachelor’s degree in a related subject such as communications and media studies, EU studies or international relations;
● Has worked for at least two years in a communications role. Experience in EU-funded projects is an advantage;
● Has experience in innovative communication techniques. Podcasting and videoing skills would be a bonus;
● Is familiar with tools such as Microsoft Office, Metricool, Google Analytics, SurveyMonkey and Canva. Experience with other tools is a bonus;
● Has the ability to analyse data, analytics and statistics and present findings and recommendations;
● Understands and is able to translate complex legal issues into clear messages for different audiences. Some knowledge of the EU UK Withdrawal Agreement citizens’ rights section would be an advantage;
● Takes initiative, is proactive, flexible, creative and unafraid to make or implement changes;
● Is able to multi-task and prioritize tasks;
● Displays excellent communication and interpersonal skills both within the BiE team and with external stakeholders;
● Has experience in innovative communication techniques. Knowledge of podcasting and/or videoing skills would be a bonus
● Has excellent writing/editing skills in English (near-native level, C1 or above). A good knowledge of other EU languages would be advantageous.
Requirements:
You must be:
● Either an EU citizen, or a British beneficiary of the WA resident in the EU, or a third country national living in the EU with full employment rights (e.g. under the temporary protection directive, or as the holder of a relevant EU work visa valid for the duration of the contract January-October 2025)
● Resident in and able to work from the EU for the duration of the project
● Willing and able to undertake project related travel in March 2025 and at other times as may be required.
● Able to work from home as we are a remote working organisation, and hold or be willing to acquire self-employed status in an EU member state;
● Available to start work no later than 15 February 2025.
